THE PARK - PLAYGROUND COMMUNITY WORKSHOP
The Parks and Recreation Department was successful with its 2017 Healthy Play Funding Application and was awarded close to $100,000 of matching funds from PlayCore and GameTime to install a new inclusive playground at Mammoth Creek Park.
The playground will be the first truly inclusive playground incorporating research-based, best practices in Eastern California and will also serve as a National Demonstration Site (NDS). Playgrounds are the gateway to playful, healthy, and active lifestyles and are critical in combating these challenges. The four small municipal playgrounds in Mammoth Lakes currently meet minimum ADA standards, but access does not guarantee inclusion. The 7,770 square foot, inclusive playground will incorporate the 7 Principles of Inclusive Playground Design providing opportunities for the physical, social-emotional, sensory, cognitive, and communicative benefits of play for all.
The community is cordially invited to attend a playground design workshop on Monday, October 16, 2017 at 5:30pm in the Council Chambers (Suite Z), Minaret Village Mall to review and finalize the playground design/theme, affirm the inclusive components, surfacing, shade and required site work/grading. This workshop will be facilitated by staff from Great Western Recreation. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided.
Please RSVP to Lauren Plum at (760) 965-3699.
