FLOCK SAFETY ALPR CAMERAS INSTALLED THROUGHOUT TOWN

Mammoth Lakes is raising the bar for community safety. While you may, or may not have noticed the small, solar-powered cameras popping up on local roadways, their appearances signal an advanced system being used to enhance the well-being of our town.

In August of 2024, the Mammoth Lakes Police Department installed 10 Flock Safety Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) cameras throughout town to:

• Locate vehicles that are stolen, involved in criminal activity, or wanted by law enforcement.
• Provide leads to assist with investigations into crimes committed within the Town.
• Detect vehicles associated with missing persons and at-risk persons, including those on active Amber Alerts, Feather Alerts, and Silver Alerts.
• Detect vehicles associated with subjects with outstanding arrest warrants or otherwise lawfully sought by law enforcement.
• Capture real-time vehicle count data to assist in evacuation planning.

Recently, MLPD partnered with Mammoth Unified School District, Mono County Office of Education, Cerro Coso Community College and Mammoth Hospital to expand its Flock Safety ALPR camera coverage. This included the purchase of three additional ALPR Falcon cameras, plus Raven gunshot detectors that cover a ¼ square mile when installed. These additions to the local Flock system will create a virtual perimeter around our community’s schools and hospital.

Flock Safety Cameras do not provide any facial recognition or personally identifiable information, and the cameras are not used for automated enforcement. All data from the cameras automatically deletes after 30 days.
