After breaking ground on April 21, 2021, the Community Recreation Center (CRC) officially opened to the public on “ICE” Friday, November 24, 2023. Outside the 40,000 sq. ft. Community Recreation Center (CRC) and under the Measure R inflatable arch, over 700 people celebrated the opening with Mammoth Lakes Mayor Pro-Tem, Bill Sauser and ex-Parks and Recreation Commission Chair, Betsy Truax. Mayor Pro-Tem Sauser and Betsy Truax have been championing this project for the past decade and never stopped pushing hard for a facility that the entire Town would be proud to call their own.
The Community Recreation Center (CRC) is a Sprung Performance Arena enclosing LA Kings Ice at Mammoth Lakes that will operate in the winter and in the summer, sport tiles will cover the rink area creating a 20,000 sq. foot Mammoth RecZone offering a multitude of court sports, events and activities for residents and visitors of Mammoth Lakes.
Combined with community driven and professionally branded programming, the new year-round facility operated by the Parks and Recreation Department will be a game-changer for recreation in Mammoth Lakes.
The CRC is the major recreation amenity at Mammoth Creek Park that includes three complementary components: the natural play area; National Demonstration Site 7,700 sq. ft. inclusive playground and the new minor-mobility hub with parking for up to 118 vehicles.
