DID YOU KNOW that the Town of Mammoth Lakes recently declared an emergency as a result of the many extreme snowstorms?

  • A state of emergency is declared when the Town (or County or State) has or will exceed its emergency response capacity and additional resources will be required to protect life and property. A local emergency may be declared by the Town Manager, with ratification by the Town Council within 7 days, or may be declared directly by the Town Council
  • A local emergency declaration delegates additional authority to the Emergency Services Director (Town Manager), who can make and issue rules and regulations on matters reasonably related to the protection of life and property.
  • All Town employees are designated as disaster service workers and can be assigned to necessary duties in repose to the emergency.
  • The Town can request and obtain vital supplies, equipment and other resources needed for the preservation of life and property (i.e., sandbags or additional contract services) and can request outside resources and personnel from the State or other agencies (i.e., Incident Management Teams or CalFire crews).
  • Requests for outside assistance for emergency response can take 48-72 hours to respond. Be prepared!
