The Zamboni 552AC machine will deliver clean ice and clean air – critical for operating indoors at the new Community Recreation Center, scheduled to open in the fall of 2022. The new emission-free ice-resurfacer replaces the existing propane-driven 27-year-old Olympia, well past its useful life. In its drive to net zero, the Town also purchased a new electric Zamboni EZIII Edger, replacing the outdated, gas-driven 1999 unit. State Updates COVID-19 Masking Guidance for Indoor Public Spaces and K-12 SchoolsOn February 28, 2022 the California Department of Public Health updated its statewide COVID-19 masking guidance to align with recent data trends which show dramatic decreases in the level of COVID-19 virus and virus transmission throughout the state. The two main updates impact general indoor public spaces, and K-12 schools and childcare. - General Indoor Public Spaces: Effective March 1, 2022, the statewide mask mandate for unvaccinated individuals within indoor public spaces will be lifted, and replaced with a strong recommendation for masking within indoor public spaces, regardless of vaccination status.
- K-12 Schools and Childcare Facilities: Effective March 12, 2022, the statewide mandate requiring universal masking in K-12 schools and childcare facilities will be lifted, and replaced with a strong recommendation.
Masks will still be required in the following select settings, regardless of vaccination status: Public Transit, Hospitals and Healthcare Settings (including skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, and long-term care facilities), Emergency Shelters and Correctional Facilities. These areas include our many parks, multi-use paths and developed recreation areas, such as Shady Rest Park. Click on the interactive map to view these high-use areas. “We have always had a leash law, typical of most cities in our state,” stated Chief Davis. “The goal of enforcement is to gain compliance. Enforcement can be as simple as a friendly warning or may escalate to a citation, just like all the other laws we enforce.” Read More…

Be SnowSmart this Winter! Be SnowSmart in Mammoth Lakes by following a few simple winter safety tips. During heavy snowfall, please stay off the roads to let our snow removal operators clear the roads and sidewalks. Don’t put on chains when you have to – put on chains before you need them. Stopping in roadways is dangerous and is to be avoided. We recommend you park your vehicle (off the roadway and behind the orange snow stakes) and take the bus. The FREE Red Line operates 7-days a week from 7:00am until 5:30pm with service from Snowcreek Athletic Club to the Mammoth Mountain Main Lodge. The Town clears several miles of sidewalks for your safety. Do not walk on the streets with vehicles and plows as they will have trouble seeing you and do not walk in-front of snow removal equipment. Click here to learn more and call 800-427-ROAD for current chain control restrictions or road conditions, listen to KMMT 106.5, Sierra Wave 92.5 or KIBS 100.7 or look for chain control signs throughout town.

Mammoth Lakes Police Department Reminds All Visitors and Residents to Follow Town Parking LawsMammoth Lakes is experiencing record visitation, which is impacting available parking, especially near busy ski lifts areas such as Canyon Lodge and The Village at Mammoth. Parking Enforcement Officers are patrolling and issuing citations daily. You can avoid receiving a parking citation by: - Not parking at the Lakes Basin’s closed gate at the east end of Lake Mary Rd. unless all 4 of your tires are on dirt/off pavement. Alternatives to accessing recreation in the Lakes Basin during the winter might be taking the Orange Line Shuttle Bus or having someone drop you off. Parking illegally at this gate also impedes emergency vehicle access.
- Not parking in the “No Parking Zones” on Highway 203, Minaret Rd., Meridian Blvd. near Eagle Lodge and on Hillside Dr., Rainbow Ln., Lakeview Blvd., and Davison Rd. near Canyon Lodge and The Village at Mammoth.
- Leaving the “Handicap” spaces for drivers with Disabled Person Parking Placards and Plates.
- Parking facing the correct direction of travel.
- Only parking in designated spaces while at Shady Rest Park.
- Not blocking fire hydrants or fire lanes.
