Community Recreation Center (CRC) Now Open!

On “ICE” Friday, November 24, over 800 people celebrated the official opening of the Community Recreation Center at Mammoth Creek Park.

Outside the 40,000 sq. ft. Community Recreation Center (CRC) and under the Measure R inflatable arch, Mammoth Lakes Mayor Pro-Tem, Bill Sauser and ex-Parks and Recreation Commission Chair, Betsy Truax cut the ceremonial ribbon and officially opened the facility to the public. Mayor Pro-Tem Sauser and Betsy Truax have been championing this project for the past decade and never stopped pushing hard for a facility that the entire Town would be proud to call their own.

Also in attendance was Councilmember Rice, Councilmember Rea, Planning and Economic Development Commission, Vice Chair Jen Burrows, and Parks and Recreation Commissioner Greg Newbry. The Town would also like to thank Mono County Supervisor Lynda Salcido and MUSD board member Lou Stewart, Mammoth Lakes Recreation (MLR) Board President Craig Albright, and MLR board members Heather Schaubmayer, Tamara Bankson and Eric Wasserman for joining the celebration. Also participating in the ceremonies were Kim Anaclerio, MLR Program Director, John Urdi, Executive Director of Mammoth Lakes Tourism and the hundreds of community members, recreation advocates, valued CRC sponsors and Town staff. Special thanks to the number one LA Kings fan, Woolly and June Mountain mascot Bucky for making the celebration so memorable for the many kids on the ice!

For more than 20 years, the Town has been actively searching for a permanent home for an indoor ice rink and multi-use facility – one that would enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors with year-round access to high-quality and innovative indoor recreational programs and activities. After breaking ground on April 21, 2021, the community celebrated phase one of this new year-round recreation facility on November 24, 2023.

The Community Recreation Center (CRC) is a Sprung Performance Arena enclosing the brand new LA Kings Ice at Mammoth Lakes. The CRC will be open and available to the public year-round, with LA Kings Ice operating annually each winter season between the months of October and April. During the summer months, the rink will be transformed into the Mammoth RecZone, a 3-court gymnasium, serving as the hub for the expanding Parks and Recreation Department’s summer camps and programs, as well as a multitude of court sports, events and activities for residents and visitors to Mammoth Lakes.
